Behind the “tripartite” rebrand for a 1980s Cardiff club

Clwb Ifor Bach has been given a new identity by London-based design studio Nissen Richards. The club, whose name translates to Ivor the Short Club in English, first opened in 1983 as a Welsh language social club. Since then, it has become a music venue, attracting bands such as Stereophonics and Super Furry Animals. It is also a Welsh-language club and communication centre.

The women working to make design education more diverse

Salone del Mobile has been postponed following Coronavirus outbreak

Salone del Mobile, Milan’s annual furniture and design fair, has been postponed from April to June because of the Coronavirus outbreak. Italy now has the highest number of confirmed cases in Europe, with more than 300 identified cases and 11 deaths. Particularly badly affected are cities in the north of the country, where Milan is located. The festival, which is in its 59th edition this year, will now take place two months later, on 16-21 June.

Studio MB redesigns Middle Eastern palace as “immersive” national museum

An immersive new national museum, housed in a formerly abandoned royal palace, has opened to the public in Kuwait. The Al Salam Palace Museum showcases the country’s 300-year history and was designed by Studio MB. The Edinburgh-based creatives have spent the last five years on the project, having won the commission from the Amiri Diwan, the royal household of the Emir of Kuwait, back in 2013.

NASA launches $30,000 competition to develop parts for new Venus rover

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has launched a competition which is asking the “global community of innovators” to develop parts for a concept rover that could explore the surface of Venus. Worth $30,000 in total, the global call for designs is in search of an obstacle avoidance sensor that will help the rover navigate the planet’s terrain.
