Retail sales surged by 6.4 per cent in January, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics today. Sales of clothing, footwear and personal accessories also recorded a 7 per cent year-on-year increase, while sales by restaurants, cafes and takeaway services rose by 6.2 per cent, and of household goods by 5.9 per cent.
