One of the main challenges for the studio was to encourage passersby to walk through the building's ground floor – consisting of a long corridor bookended with space for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) equipment– and climb the stairs to reach the Deja Vu Recycle Store. Second-hand books are displayed in supermarket-style crates.

Architecture studio OMA has revealed images of the first completed part of its renovation of Berlin department store KaDeWe, a retail and event space connected by wood-clad escalators. OMA designed the spaces as part of its renovation of the Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe), the second-largest department store in Europe after London's Harrods.

Viewed from different angles, the reflected blurred color blocks enrich the clean display shelves and connect to the outdoors in a subtle way. The central staircase upon entrance can quickly take the customer flow to the second floor, while defining a loop circulation for the ground floor, creating a more interesting shopping experience.
