EGO Hair Salon, by IS Architecture and Design. IS Architecture and Design was briefed to turn a disused gym into a space age hair salon. The result is a maximalist set of spaces which Rockwell says “celebrates the spirit of carefree sophistication” Several site-specific installations have been designed as feature points.

This flows into the men’s space, which manifests in the same aesthetic but with a golden twist on the handmade salt panels. The focal point is a feature room in a curved form enclosed by a jade-green leather curtain suspended from a custom polished-chrome rail. the feature separating the focal point feature room.

The store’s main focal point is a 19 Degree Aluminium Sculpture by pioneering perceptual artist Michael Murphy. Located in Tokyo, the store was created by the architectural firm Studio Dig and contains handcrafted tiling with an earthy vibe and soft-form furniture.

Paying homage to Italian architecture, the first arrival and bar lounge features sweeping archways and decorative screens. A focal point of the space is a large mural designed and painted by London-based illustrator Kate Philipson. Greenery punctuates the indoor space, and overflows in the connected courtyard.

The new facade design language extends the block outline of traditional Korean architecture while seamlessly blending in with the facade of the original building. The see-through steps eliminates the blockiness of the central staircase, allowing faintly visible scenes behind to show, making it the visual focal point on this level.
